Effective 20 October 2026 · Scope Cop LLC
Read this part first. Scope records the location of field personnel at and near job sites, including while the app is in the background, and shares that location with two parties: the person's own employer, and the owner of the asset they are visiting. That is the purpose of the product, not a side effect. Section 4 explains it in full.
1. Who we are
Scope is operated by Scope Cop LLC, a California limited liability company (Entity No. B20260404462) based in Temecula, California, trading as Scope. In this policy "we" and "us" mean Scope Cop LLC, and "Scope" means our mobile and web applications and the services behind them.
Scope is sold to businesses. In almost every case your account was created by your employer or by an asset owner, and that organization decides who may use Scope and what work is recorded in it. If you are a field technician or a manager, your organization is our customer and we handle your information on its instructions as well as for the purposes described here.
2. What we collect
| Category | Examples | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Name, work email address, telephone number, employer, job role | Created by your employer or an asset owner; accounts are issued by invitation and we do not create them automatically |
| Location | Latitude and longitude, accuracy, the time of the reading, and whether it fell inside a job site's geofence | Your device, including while the app is in the background. See section 4 |
| Photographs | Job site photographs, the time each was captured, the time it was uploaded, and file size | Taken by you in the app |
| Documents | Leases, notices to proceed, permits, drawings, lift plans, certificates of insurance | Uploaded by your organization |
| Messages | Messages you post to a job thread | Written by you |
| Activity record | Approvals, rejections, flags, submissions, schedule changes, and who performed each one and when | Generated as you use Scope |
| Technical | Device model, operating system version, app version, IP address, crash and error reports | Collected automatically so we can keep the service working |
We do not ask for and do not want government identifiers, financial account numbers, health information, or biometric data. Do not put them in a photograph, document or message.
3. Why we use it
- To run the service — build close-out packages, route documents for approval, carry messages, and schedule pre-construction walks.
- To establish who was on site, and when — the core compliance function Scope exists to perform.
- To tell people what needs attention — arrival alerts, outstanding items, expiring insurance, approaching deadlines.
- To keep a reliable record — so that a dispute about what was approved, submitted or photographed can be settled from evidence.
- To keep Scope secure and working — diagnosing faults, preventing abuse, and recovering from failures.
We do not use your information to train machine learning models, to build advertising profiles, or for any purpose unrelated to the work being recorded.
4. Location, specifically
This is the part of Scope that most affects field personnel, so it is set out plainly.
What is collected
When you are assigned to active work, Scope records your device's location in order to detect arrival at and departure from a job site. Job sites have a geofence of roughly a quarter mile. Readings are collected while the app is in the background, because a technician does not open an app to arrive at a tower.
Who it is shared with
- Your employer. Your project manager can see that you arrived at a site, when, and whether you left with checklist items outstanding.
- The owner of the asset you are visiting. Their construction manager can see that a named person from a named contractor is present at their site, and whether that person is authorized to be there.
An asset owner sees presence at their own sites only. Your employer sees its own personnel only. One contractor never sees another contractor's people.
What is not done with it
- We do not track you away from assigned job sites, and we do not build a continuous history of your movements.
- We do not sell location data, share it with data brokers, or give it to anyone for advertising.
- We do not provide location data to anyone other than the two parties named above, except as described in section 6.
Your control
Location permission is granted by you in your device settings and can be withdrawn there at any time. Scope will keep working for photographs, documents and messages without it. Be aware that arrival and departure will stop being recorded, and your employer and the asset owner may require that record as a condition of working on a site. That is their decision and not ours.
5. Who can see your information inside Scope
Access is enforced by the system rather than by policy. In normal operation:
- You see the jobs you are assigned to.
- Your employer sees its own jobs, personnel, documents and records.
- An asset owner sees work performed on its own assets, by any contractor, including who is present and what has been submitted for approval.
- Other contractors see nothing of yours.
A small number of our own staff can access customer data when it is necessary to operate the service, investigate a fault, or resolve a dispute between a contractor and an asset owner. That access is logged.
6. When we disclose information outside Scope
- Service providers who host, store, transmit or monitor the service on our behalf, under contracts that restrict them to that purpose. These include cloud hosting and storage, database hosting, identity and sign-in, and message, email and push notification delivery.
- When the law requires it — in response to a valid legal process, or to protect someone's safety, our rights, or the security of the service.
- In a business transfer — if Scope Cop LLC is acquired or merged, information may transfer with the business, subject to this policy.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We have not done so in the preceding twelve months.
7. How long we keep it, and the limits on deletion
Compliance records exist so that they can be relied on later, so retention is longer than you might expect from a consumer app. Close-out packages, approvals, arrival records and documents are retained for the term of the customer's subscription and for a period afterwards set by that customer's agreement with us, so that a completed job can still be evidenced.
One limitation you should know about. Scope keeps an activity record that is append-only by design: entries are written once and cannot be altered or deleted by anyone, including us and including the asset owner. This is what makes the record trustworthy, and it means that if you ask us to delete your information we can remove your account and content but cannot remove entries showing that an action was taken, by whom, and when. Where the law allows us to retain records for legal compliance and for internal uses compatible with the context in which they were provided, we rely on that.
Technical logs are kept for a short period and then discarded.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to ask us to delete it, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended.
Because your account belongs to your employer or to an asset owner, the quickest route is usually to ask them. You can also write to us at the address in section 11 and we will respond within the time the law allows. We will ask you to verify your identity, and we will direct a request to the relevant organization where the information is theirs rather than ours. Section 7 explains what we cannot delete.
9. Security
Information is encrypted in transit. Access between organizations is separated in the database itself, so that one customer's records are not reachable from another customer's session. Photographs and documents are stored with access granted per request rather than by public link. Sign-in is handled by a dedicated identity provider and we never store your password.
No system is perfect. If we become aware of a breach affecting your information we will notify the affected organizations and, where the law requires, the individuals and regulators concerned.
10. Children
Scope is a tool for people at work and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
